Baroque Virtual Exhibition
1st November 2020 · 19th January 2021
Through a careful selection of our works, we have planned the exhibition as an interactive tour where the visitor will be able to enjoy the aesthetics of the 17th and 18th centuries, while at the same time being imbued with Baroque thought. Thus, as we go through the different rooms, we invite the visitor to reflect on aspects that can be extrapolated to today's turbulent world, such as "the fervour of beliefs", brought about by works of enormous emotional strength such as the remarkable Orazio de Ferrari or the three Luca Giordano; "the transience of life", represented, for example, in the Vanitas by Andrés de Leito and Angelo Caroselli; "the power of the portrait" as a means of representation, highlighting our impressive effigy of the Duke of Modena by Guercino; and "scarcity versus abundance", an interesting contrast posed by the confrontation of such different still lifes as that of Nuvolone and Pret. Of course, by no means do we disregard the marked identity of the Spanish Baroque, which is so evident in the works gathered here from the main representatives of the school, such as Maíno, Van der Hamen, Murillo or Carreño de Miranda.
