A one-hour lunchtime webinar update on the implications of Brexit for the art market led by our principal sponsor, Hunters Law LLP. Gregor Kleinknecht from Hunters Law will be joined by VAT and shipping experts, Victor Khureya from Gander and White and Catherine Thompson from Rawlinson & Hunter LLP, to cover a wide range of topics including the new VAT regime, importing and exporting art from and to the EU, consumer protection, data protection and dispute resolution to help London Art Week Galleries thrive in the post-Brexit area and avoid common pitfalls. This update will be followed by a Q&A session.
Gregor Kleinknecht is a partner at Hunters Law LLP, specialising in art and cultural heritage law, and a mediator and arbitrator with ArtResolve, the dedicated dispute resolution service for art and cultural heritage claims. He conducts both transactional and dispute resolution work for a wide range of national and international artists, collectors, galleries, dealers, auctioneers, art consultants, funding organisations and landed estates. Gregor also advises and has successfully acted for claimants in Holocaust restitution Claims.
Gregor chairs the board of PAIAM (the Professional Advisers to the International Art Market), is a founding member of the Lawyers' Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation, a member of the Steering Committee for art & cultural heritage of the American Bar Association Section of International Law, a member of the Institute of Art and Law (IAL), Art Law Foundation, Arts Club and the Fondation Maeght.
Victor Khureya has been Executive Operations Director at Gander and White since 2005, ensuring that the company's day to day operations comply with HMRC and other government regulations whilst meeting client requirements. His most valuable experience has been dealing with HM Revenue & Customs, successfully applying for and being granted facilities that have enabled Gander and White to have an edge over competitors. Victor has overseen the expansion of Gander and White into a global premium fine art shipping company with offices in London, Sussex, Paris, New York, San Francisco, LA, Miami and West Palm Beach. Victor has an MBA in Shipping & Logistics from Middlesex University & Lloyds of London.
Catherine Thompson is a Corporate Services Partner at Rawlinson & Hunter LLP and has extensive experience in providing accounting and tax services together with full financial outsourcing to SME and entrepreneurial clients. She provides an efficient, responsive and high-end bespoke service allowing business owners to concentrate on running their business rather than worrying about the finances. Catherine heads up the Firm's VAT team and has expertise in handling complex VAT arrangements with particular expertise in advising on cross border transactions.
Her portfolio includes a substantial number of top London art galleries and art sector clients which form part of the Firm's dedicated art practice.
Catherine is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Catherine is also on the Board of PAIAM (Professional Advisers to the International Art Market) where she is Treasurer.
